Does astronomy cease to be 'fun' after you go professional?

It all depends. If you are lucky enough to make it a 'day job' it is a lot of work indeed. I enjoy the process of discovery, but not as much as some other people who are even better at it than I. I, on the other hand, enjoy helping people understand astronomy and the universe a little better. I now have far more opportunities to do this than I ever had before I became a professional, and so for me, yes, turning professional has made it easier for me to have lots more fun.
